violence and child abuse. It is the companion for CHANGE
COULD COME, an education and training package for adults.
A structured approach to working with 4 - 12 year old
children who have experienced domestic violence and
abuse
An effective “one-step removed” approach to assist
children and families process their personal experiences
of violence and abuse using the family situations in the
video
Clarification of beliefs about gender, power and
responsibility and how these beliefs are shaped by the
domestic violence context
Culturally appropriate resources that assist children and families
to overcome
the effects of domestic violence and
abuse and develop positive
relationships based on equality,
respect and trust
HOW TO USE THE PACKAGE
CREATING THE FUTURE is suitable for use by health, welfare,
educational and therapeutic workers whose clients are
4-12 year old children and their families. The resource
package can be used in both individual and group work
with children, young people and families who:
Currently live in situations
of domestic violence
Have separated as a result of domestic violence
Have contact with the
offending parent
Have no contact with the offending
parent
Are friends, peers or relatives of
children and families who have
experienced domestic
violence and abuse
CREATING THE FUTURE CONTAINS A 60 minute video featuring:
Noni Hazlehurst as the host
and presenter
The Jannawi Kids who realistically depict a range of children’s
experiences of both living with and separating from domestic
violence
Stories that demonstrate cultural diversity and respect for
Indigenous reconciliation including “Murraga Burrapur - Maybe
Tomorrow” with Indigenous actors Ernie Dingo and the late Bob
Maza as narrators and the late Pauline McLeod as storyteller
Eight sections
with stories of 6-9 minutes duration that link with
the Leader’s Handbook and the Activity Books
Leader’s Handbook:

key concepts, questions and presenter’s notes
Activity Books:
Contains 120 pages of worksheets, songs,
puzzles, stories and
activities to process the content and issues raised in the video
